Words For To The Newly Wed

The follow exert is something I felt inspired to write to two dear friends that had a wedding recently. I was looking through my computer for something else just now (to put on the web site) and I felt that perhaps these words may be of value to others. Enjoy.

Dear friends,
Today is a momentous occasion. I would like to dedicate a few words to your journey as you take these early steps into marriage. I pray that at least a few flashes of wisdom will come through somewhere on this page and that they might serve you in the years to come.

I have a dear friend in the USA who is an ordained Kahuna Shaman / Priest-an order of Priests that go back 2000+ years into the history of the Islands of Hawaii. A major part of the Kahuna's role in the community-a community that existed peacefully for something like 1200 years with little crime, no police, no army, no jails, and where enlightenment was common among its' people-was to impart wisdom with regard to the true nature of life and to bring these understandings into the context of relationship. I feel it is appropriate to draw on a little that wisdom and share it with you both at this special time in your lives.

There are various understandings that the Kahuna maintained - some of which I shall do my best to impart.

First and foremost there is the understanding that you and I are Divine beings. That is our true nature. That is who and what we are, and in that there is an innate perfection.

This is not a belief - it simply is as it is..

As Divine Beings we have no needs but one - namely the need for a mirror. We have no other needs when we are Present and conscious within our Divinity.

Friends, you are now each other's closest mirrors. such is the nature of entering into marriage. Therefore I encourage you both to cultivate the understanding that your roles for one another are to see the Divinity in yourself and the other, and to support and remain true to that at all times, to the best of your ability.

Another important principle is that marriage does not happen in front of a priest nor does it take place with the signing of papers. From the perspective maintained by the Kahuna-one which I concur with fully-marriage takes at least 5 to 10 years for two people to create together. We have all celebrated your intention to marry. yet the journey into a state of marriage, or communion, is in your hands and is a path you now walk on hand in hand. The Priest or Celebrant in front of whom you took your vowels was there also to celebrate and consecrate this noble pledge you have made together - before God and all those present today. So may you both be mindful that each day you are building your marriage. Each day your are discovering what it means to truly and fully come together in Love. Today was the first, and very important, step.

My role-as a witness to this event-is to be here for each of you, as and whenever required. My role is to gently return you to the living memory of this commitment you've both made - during those times of struggle that are sure to arise from time to time - and to continue holding the highest vision of unity between you both.

This is all I feel to go into at this time. but I would be happy to talk with you both at length about the few things I have come to understand with regard to conscious, loving relationship, and the growth that can unfold through such a commitment to another.

Love each other. Surrender to each other and enjoy the ride.

If there is one thing you remember from this letter may it be this -

At all the key junctures in your journey together-especially those times when things get difficult, confusing or challenging, yet also when the ride is smooth-ask yourself this one question

"What would love do now?"

If you can't find the answer then be still and wait until you can. Then act on it - whatever, in all honesty and truth, that answer happens to be. Again.

"What would love do now?" 

This will be the question that will forever take you both into the depths of this wondrous journey you are on with each other and with God.

Man, over the coming years may you find it within you to surrender deeper into Woman than you had ever imagined possible - into the love that Woman, by her very nature, as Woman, embodies so gracefully. As Man that is really all you are required to do. To surrender and to serve. yet remember always to serve the Woman that is divinity and has no needs except that for an honest, truthful, and loving mirror. Through that surrender may you discover and honour the softest parts within you and may you bathe in the love that Woman will impart in return and also that love that will well up within you in ever increasing intensity.

Woman, over the coming years may you find it within you to love wholeheartedly in the way that the Earth upon which we stand loves all those upon her fragile skin. Gently, firmly, honestly, unconditionally. Support Man in his softness and in his surrender to that which you are, yet remember to support that which is Man in his Divinity and has no needs except for an honest, supporting and loving mirror. Refrain from blame and co-dependency. simply be the Love that you are and Man in that Love.

Really this is the basis of Woman and Man in union. The deep and unwavering foundation created by such a union will allow you both all the freedom you require, as a couple and as individuals, to explore life and discover exactly what it is you are each here to impart to the world.

Remember always your individuality - for it is only in honouring that first and foremost that you have something True and loving to bring to this relationship. It is only through this that you, Man, have something to surrender to Woman. It is only through your individuality, Woman, with which you have something to support Man in his most vulnerable moments of Love.
