Forever Expanding Awareness in Liberation (FEAL)

It's all happening for you, not to you

It is rather easy, and in fact 'normal', within this world for people to maintain the idea that 'things are happening to them' as some form of attack or abuse or hardship etc. What I would like to suggest here is that this is an incorrect assessment of the events of life made solely by the ego for it's own ends. An assessment that maintains the illusion of separation and upholds the belief in the victim mentality from which we all must one day break free.

To give an extreme example, if I walk down the road to the shops and get hit by a bus the ego will attempt to create and maintain the idea that this happened 'to me'. Similarly, if my husband runs of with another woman, again this has happened FOR ME and not TO ME. So long as I maintain the illusion that it has happened TO ME then I will maintain separation within my experience of that event and hence perpetuate pain and suffering within my world and prevent myself from ever really recognising and receiving the gift of Love that is constantly being handed to me in every moment and through every circumstance I perceive within my apparent world.

What I would like to suggest, much to the horror of the ego I suspect, is that this happened FOR ME. What I am suggesting here is that EVERYTHING is happening FOR YOU. It is all in service to You. It is all in service to one purpose—namely reflecting to you your true nature and how/why/where you have forgotten your Divinity, your true nature.

I know that this is something the collective and individualised ego will find very hard to comprehend. It will fight this idea to the very end. I suggest that because it completely undermines the ego's attempt to maintain a world of attack from which it must separate and defend itself. All attack is an attack of the ego upon itself. All attack arises from the ego and is made unto the ego. Be that the apparent collective ego or the apparently individualised ego. All forms of attack, on whatever scale they might appear to be taking place, are made by the ego unto itself.

In a world where things are happening 'to me' it is very easy for the ego to maintain it's aggressive position in the world. Even 'playing the victim role' is an aggressive position for it never plays out alone, it always involves a perceived aggressor. In a world where things are happening 'to me' it is very easy for the ego to maintain the illusion that either God does not exist or—and more importantly from the ego's point of view—the idea that God is a vengeful God and God is vengeful toward me because I have done something wrong or bad. This sort of madness is, in part, how the ego maintains the delusion that 'I am guilty of sin or doing wrong'. That belief maintains the illusion that 'I must therefore be separate from God, for God is Perfect and I am imperfect hence the two are separate from each other'. This madness goes on and on and on.

I would like to suggest that as you go through your day please make a point of reminding yourself that 'This is happening FOR ME not TO ME'. If something that you perceive as adverse comes up in your world then just as soon as you remember during the course of reflecting on this event remind yourself that 'This has happened for me and not to me'. Then ask yourself ' what am I showing myself through this event or circumstance? How have I forgotten my Divinity in this situation?

You might find you can most efficiently answer that question by taking a look at the 'story' you have told around that event or circumstance. In fact, if you are honest in your review of that story then this will take you to the very heart of why this event or circumstance has happened for you (and in fact BY YOU).

In love,

Jonathan
